I Just Don't Get It

I thought the purpose of getting an ID from someone when they use their debit/credit card was so you could be sure it's the same person. HOW IS THAT DONE WITHOUT MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH THE PERSON?? I continue to be amazed when I am asked for my ID and after barely glancing at it AND never comparing the picture to the person in front of them the cashier hands the ID back and completes the transaction. I just don't get it..............

What a day........

These are my magic shoes. They don't really help me run very fast, as they are not running shoes, but, they are RED and I love the color RED!!! So I wear my magic shoes to work on days when I know it wouldn't take a lot for things to go wrong. You know those days when you have a lot to do and you really don't even feel like being at work. So I put on my shoes and headed out. Things had to get done today and I was on day number 5 without my work keys. I am really lost without those keys. In over four years I had never lost my work keys. Then it happened. Right before our Holiday break I could not keep up with my keys. I was having to use Rachael's all the time. It didn't seem to bother her much but, it drove me crazy!! Then again this week I lost them! Well, once again Tom's my hero. After looking in my car millions of times he took pity on me and checked it out himself. Guess what he came in with.

Rachael said it best, "tell Tom we love him."

Also today, without explaining the whole long story, here's an email exchange between me and a salesmen:

Subject: Hey

Checking to see if you needed any toner cartridges?

Sincerely,

I replied:

Subject:RE: Hey

Funny story, I spoke to you over a month ago when you called to say that you would be visiting our campus. I told you how the toner cartridges in my printer, the ones from your company, had leaked out on to the printer image transfer kit, for the second time and you told me you would come clean the printer and I could order more toner at that time. I’m still waiting for your visit. In the mean time I ordered toner from XXXXXXX.

His reply:

I deserve it. I still haven’t made it on campus. If the printer still needs some maintenance I’ll take care of it.

XXXXXXXX

Not exactly an apology but, he did take responsibility. I guess I'll give him a call next week.

All in all it was a good Friday. Have a good week end.

Thankful Sunday.......on Monday

Long week-ends!!!! I have so enjoyed my 3 day week end I forgot that yesterday was Sunday. Forgive me.

Girl's Night. For the first time in months some of us got together for dinner and a movie. I had a lot of fun eating and catching up. {"Bride Wars", I thought it was cute. The beginning was the best.}

My Craft Room. I want everyone to know that I spent several hours scrap booking yesterday and today. Made all the more fun because Tom and I did it together.

Cell Phones. Hannah flew to Las Vegas this morning and was able to call me from her cell phone as soon as she landed. Family rule: When traveling by plane, call mom as soon as the plane lands. Not when you get your luggage, not when you get off the plane, but, as soon as the wheels touch the runway. Mom worries.

Back to scrap booking.

My debit card embarrassed me.

I decided to treat myself to a salad from one of my favorite restaurants for lunch. As I approached the cashier I pulled my card out and a mental picture of my checking balance flashed in my mind, as it always does when I pull out my debit card. I was good for a $6 lunch. The gentlemen at the register took my card and ran it through "the machine". "I'll need another card" he stated. I guess my face showed my stunned disbelief because he quickly followed with, "Would you like me to run it again." Only if you want me to pay for this lunch, I thought, it's the only "card" I have and like many in this day and age I don't carry much cash with me. After this second try he quickly printed, what I thought was a receipt, and gave it to me. DECLINED in bold black letters. In my confusion I started pulling everything out of my purse, looking for cash that I knew was not there. With this the gentlemen assured me that it was fine and that I could just pay the next time I was in. As I gathered my things and in total embarrassment my mind started racing. What had I done? Why didn't I have $6 in my account? I just balanced my checkbook and checked my balance on line. On the drive home I decided it was not my error. What had my bank done?!? By the time I got home I was furious. Before calling, I checked my balance on line again. I was right!! Not even close, more than enough to cover lunch! Damn bank.

"Yes, I'll be happy to help you with your problem." The voice on the other end stated.

My problem?!? Not MY problem, YOUR problem, I thought.

"Your account number please."

"Let's see, I show that your card was declined just a few minutes ago.......mmmm.......and yes your balance is enough to cover the amount............mmmmmmm.......can you please give me the number on your debit card?"

By this time I'm sure my anger is apparent in my tone. I don't have time to deal with this stuff. It's your problem, just fix it!! And while you're at it call the gentlemen at my favorite restaurant and tell him it was your fault!! All these thoughts are racing through my head when I hear,

"I'm sorry but, according to our records that is a new card and it has not been activated yet."

Activated? Activated? Ohhhhhh, you mean I was really supposed to activate the new debit card that I received in the mail last week? You mean activate it, like the letter that accompanied it stated? You mean I should have followed the directions that came with the new card?

"Okay, I'll do that right now. Thank you for your help." As I hung up, I'm not sure, but I may have heard the nice lady on the other end say something about, "Damn customers!"

I have to go now. I need to take the gentlemen at my favorite restaurant $6. If you're ever in Carrollton, GA try eating at "The Grillage" on Maple St. Great food and really nice people. I also have a lead on a really good bank.

Home

This is the key to my home. I love it. When I purchased it I also got one for each of my girls. Neither of which live in the same home as me at this time. I did this to remind them that their home is here, where it has been, except for the first few years of their life. Meghan has been officially out of the house for two and a half years now and Hannah for 2 years. I still have a hard time calling their houses their homes. I am home, their daddy is home, Dazi lives at home. Home is where they grew up. Meghan, in her efforts to ease me into the idea has started referring to her house as "Faith Ann's home". I don't think that works either. My granddogs' home is my home.
Maybe when Tom and I move from this wonderful little house where the girls grew up I will change my mind. Maybe then they can each have their own home. Maybe................

I love those girls!

Thankful Sunday

After 19 days off I am thankful that I have a job to return to. Not that I'm ready to go back to work. I have totally enjoyed each day off but, in times like these there are too many people that need a job for me to complain about having one.

The quilt on our bed:

I don't nap often but when I do, like this afternoon, the quilt keeps me warm and allows Dazi to join me without spreading her hair to our white bedspread.

One more item for my first Thankful Sunday list, being able to make my posts as long or short as I want. I have much more that I could list but, I just want to go enjoy the rest of the evening with Tom and Dazi............for tomorrow is Monday.

Happy Happy 2009

My 2009 Resolutions: NONE. I don't make them. Too much pressure.

I am trying, and have been for the past few years, to be more aware of all the wonderful people/things/places/animals in my life that I have to be thankful for. It was suggested to me by one of "the nine", story for another blog, to do as "the nine" do every Monday and share my Top 5 from my Thankful List. Here it is:

1) Tom, AKA: my knight in shining armor, my husband, my high school sweetheart, my best friend, my lover, the father of my girls, my personal cook, my dream keeper, and the list goes on and on. Thank you for the comfort in knowing that I'll always have you.......till death do we part.

2) Meghan and Hannah, AKA: my girls, my little girls, my children, my granddogs' moms, my future, the mothers of any of my future grandchildren, aunts to those same future grandchildren, etc. etc. etc. Two of the most amazing, beautiful, thoughtful, inspiring young ladies on this planet. Thank you. You each give me many reasons to be proud to call you mine!

3) Simplicity, this simple word has brought so much to my life in 2008. Peace, happiness, quiet, comfort, stillness, love. I feel it has opened my heart and mind to so many possibilities. Simplify! It's a great way to live.

4) GOOD Friends, AKA: Denise and Lillie, friends you can count on, friends who are there before you even know you need them, friends who care, love, share, cry, laugh, hate, wonder and simply live life with you. Thank you both for being true GOOD friends.

5) Dazi, AKA: the princess, my baby, Tom's dog, a true companion. She barged into our lives at a time when I was not ready for her. She was patient. She loved me even though I was slow to return that love. She taught me to keep my heart open because you never know when or in what form love might leap in.

That was easy and fun. But I have lots more that I am thankful for; home, work, my mom and dad, my sister, my brothers, traveling, baseball, and much more. So if it's OK with "the nine", I'll borrow their idea and my future Sunday posts will be my thankful list. Thanks girls!

More thanks to BEAT for her blog, Curbside Conference, what an inspiration.
